We can limit truck access to the cities for the good of all, so why not bikes?

    Here are the rules!

No bicycle shall weigh less than 20kg.

No bicycle tyre shall have a width of less than 2.5cm.

No bicycle shall have more than three gears.

    Drop handlebars are forbidden.

No fixing of footwear to pedals is permitted.

    Helmets are optional.

Of course, all rules have exceptions, and none of the above will apply to registered bike couriers who will be required to have TPPD insurance and pay an annual registration fee for their bikes which will have numberplates (and for whom helmets will be compulsory).

Optional helmets is proposed for two reasons - it's hot enough in Qld as it is without insulating the top half of your head from the breeze; and people who are happy riding in a sedate fashion from A to B without pedalling flat out with their eyes fixed 10cm ahead of the front wheel are much less likely to have a smash. None of the big cycling countries have helmet laws.
