DPI Visits Stockman Base Metals Project
Earth Resources personnel, including
recently appointed Executive Director
Mike Hollitt, visited the proposed
Stockman Base Metals Project site, 20 km
northeast of Omeo. The proposal includes
underground mining of the Wilga and
Currawong deposits, the former of which
was also mined during the 1990s as part
of the Benambra Project. Jabiru Metals
has commenced seeking approvals for
the development, which is expected to
include environmental assessment via an
Environment Effects Statement process.
The purpose of the visit was to familiarise
personnel with the proposal, its
environmental context and potential
development and approval issues.
We should not have been surprised
at how cold it was, being winter and
660 m above sea level, but some of us
were wishing wed brought beanies as
well as gloves! Our hosts, Ian Blucher
(Approvals Manager) and Bruce Kendall
(Exploration Project Manager), took us to
the Stockman Project potential processing
plant, tailing storage and water dam sites,
the Benambra Project Wilga mine portal,
processing plant and tailing storage sites,
and the Snowy River. DPI personnel felt
they were better informed, as a result of
the site visit, to deal with issues arising
during project refinement and approval
processes.
