PayPal currently offers discounted transaction fees to charities and nonprofits. They could make a concerted effort to push further into the space however to date they continue to play to their strength which is payment processing.
Pushpay need to protect themselves from the likes of PayPal by developing a customer proposition that is greater than just donation collection. This is why it makes sense for Pushpay to continue to build out its offering. By combing church management functionality alongside parishioner engagement tools in addition to donation processing this then provides a more difficult offering for the likes of PayPal to challenge.
It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that Pushpay grows large enough to become a takeover target.
Holder of both PayPal and Pushpay.
