Yes. Iran did do Sheep for Oil deals with New Zealand.
Iran was subject to US embargos in the 1980's (after they kidnapped the entire US Embassy staff in 1980) so they were forced to do a number of imaginative transactions to move their oil for "currency" other than USDs. While these deals were often ingenious, thirty years of countertrade hasn’t actually turned Iran into a world economic power. Quite the contrary.
I suspect that sheep might work better than gold or yuan for settlement of trade deals (to bring myself back on topic). They can always eat the sheep.
