In one perspective one might question whether they are ready for democracy? When the"Russias" disintegrated, and Communism ended, that huge country collapsed into disarray. They couldnt cope without the strict order & discipline previously in place under their Communist regime.
Dont get me wrong, I dont advocate communism, I hate it, but it certainly held things together. My (now departed) father and I were watching CNN telly one night in the late '90's showing the crime, drugs, prostitution & poverty that suddenly emerged with their new-found freedom. And he, who hated communism even more than I, turned to me & said :" I hate to even think this, but maybe they were better off under communism".
Their democracy might have to wait until more resources, infrastructure & employment are in place for the masses.
Look at huge, enormously populated China, think of the chaos if suddenly everyone could have their own way.
Its going to happen, in China as well as Russia, but it will have to happen slowly & orderly for it to be effective.
Feel free to disagree.
