Practically - A lot of Western Australia is in the tropics, where daylight saving makes no sense. Neither does it make sense to have two time zones in the same State or to make our stinking hot Summer days last any longer into the evening. That is why sandgropers (who mostly live in the south) have tried and rejected daylight saving.
Geographically - Australian Eastern Standard time is based on a meridian which passes between Sydney and Canberra, so most of the population lives in a time zone closely aligned with siderial time. Western Standard time is based on a meridian which passes 450km east of Perth, so 20 minutes or so of daylight saving is already built-in, year round. Western Australians had daylight saving before the wise men from the East had even heard of it!

from an evening sunlight perspective we dont actually need it. It is the 3 hour time difference that is annoying. I can live with it either way though.
