yes, agree it is interesting that the TSF did not overflow.
This is probably because it being summer, etc there was probably a lot of extra capacity in the TSF in addition to the necessary 1 in 100 year required freeboard. This would also be affected by where the TSF was in its design cycle with respect to new lifts. That is, if a new lift had been done recently then the spare holding capacity would be very large.
Pit bund walls are not that sophisticated in construction and are generally just made of loose waste rock (i.e. no clay and compaction like a TSF) and also don't typically have spillways. So a topping out over the bund wall will result in immediate disintegration of the bund at the overflow point purely from the flow of water eroding away the loose rock.
To rebuild the bund wall is very low cost, and it sounds like damage to the pit will be minimal - so the main impact on RRL is loss of cash flow.
