Curious? You say distributors instead of manufacturers, do you imply that all the goods in Aldi stores that have the "Made in Australia" label are fake. Because if ALDI uses the same "distributors as Coles and Woolies then by definition many of the products are sourced from overseas and not Australian owned. In terms of fruit & veg many of Coles & Woolies stuff comes from cool stores or is gas ripened. Before you offload on me let me say that as a former exec I was in a position to know a lot about the products being offered by the big boys. I think ALDi are smart enough to pick up some of the not so perfect skinned fruit & thereby have a lower cost base. Additionally I would be fairly certain the ALDI buyers are not paid anywhere near the exhorbidant salaries and bonuses as its rivals, hence why Coles & Woolies tend to be more expensive. The other item of note is that Coles and Woolies will try to match ALDI on price for some lines but those lines in which ALDI does not carry then the margins are a lot higher. Coles and Woolies have been denigrating ALDi for ages in the hope people will be turned off but the more savvy customers are happy to give them a go, especially on every day items.
