US$30b Income from a Glaucoma Drug

Thanks @standalone for your query on PYC's patent on Glaucoma. They have taken an Australian patent on 07-Apr-2022 and later withdrawn because they took a a big leap into a World Patent for the same on 28-Sep-2023.

Obviously filing a World Patent would be much more involved and most likely costing a lot more. Therefore they have filed it world-wide under a firm belief that it would be a winner! in their pipeline of new drugs.

As RNA drugs are used to modulate (up or down regulate) the cell functions in producing certain proteins, they do not modify the DNA and therefore require periodic topping up to maintain efficacy. In a business perspective, it would create an ongoing income stream as each patient would reply on ongoing treatments for life. PYC - Complete List of 54 Patents registered with WIPO

In order to fully understand PYC's scientific research achievement, one needs to step back and see the forest. I have held back not posting the complete list but it's high time for HC members to appreciate PYC's 54 patents registered and published through WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization).

The WIPO web site does not give a full list and I had to hunt them down and collate bits and pieces into a highly readable table per above for your benefit. Entries highlighted in read are patents yet to appear in drugs yet to be announced. Although most of the ones in 2022 had been withdrawn or lapsed, one would appreciate the tracks they have gone down to and some of these could resurface in the future.

    Drugs Treatment Inflammation ?

Entries 10,11,12 for COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR MODULATING INFLAMMATION, the patents had been withdrawn. But you could see PYC got very serious about it and filed 3 patents for it. Inflammation is just about the most common aliment especially with the ageing population.

    Major diseases caused by inflammation:

    (1) Diabetes: According to the American Diabetes Association, 30.3 million people or 9.4% of the American population, had diabetes in 2015 and it was the 7th leading cause of death in the United States.Cardiovascular diseases: In line with 2017 updated report from the American Heart Association,

    (2) Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) accounts for 1 out of every three deaths or approximately 800,000 deaths in the United States. Globally, CVD accounts for 31% of all deaths, and coronary heart disease (CHD) accounts for most deaths due to CVD, followed by stroke (1 of 20 deaths in the United States) and heart failure.

    (3) Arthritis and Joint Diseases: These affect approximately 350 million people worldwide and nearly 43 million people in the United States or almost 20% of the population. This number is expected to exceed 60 million by 2020. Nearly, 2.1 million Americans suffer from rheumatoid arthritis.

    (4) Allergies: These rank among the sixth leading cause of chronic human diseases in the United States and affect more than 50 million Americans each year. Asthma affects more than 24 million people in the United States including more than 6 million children. In 2015, 8.2% of adults and 8.4% of children were diagnosed with hay fever.

    (5) Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): The third most common cause of death in the United States in 2014, and nearly 15.7 million Americans (6.4%) were reported to have been diagnosed with COPD. More info: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK493173/

See pass the 8c barrier. PYC is much bigger than you could ever imagine !

Apart from the existing 4 drugs raking in a conservative estimate of US$17b (A$26b or $5.50/share by 2029). If the Glaucoma drug come to fruition, it would bring in another US$30b p.a. Total income would be US$47b (A$15/share) . When they bring out a drug to treat inflammation, it could be as big as US$60 - $100b. Do the math yourself. No wonder Rohan Hockings would not do a BD which amounts to giving away the crown jewel at a bargain basement price! DYOR
