Has anyone seen this recording of a live Q&A discussion on the use of Aeroform by AAMG Plastic Surgery?

For anyone interested, here's some of my notes on the discussion. Most of the info is stuff we already know, but great to hear the endorsements coming from doctors actually using it in their practice.

Interestingly, Dr. Singh who is one of the two doctors featured will become the Chair of the Regulatory Subcommittee for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) sometime this year. It will be great to have a big supporter of Aeroform in that position of influence.
    • The Aeroform is a novel way of doing tissue expansion.
    • It gives patients a remote control, lets them press a button to release a small puff of gas up to three times a day which does the expansion. There are lockouts of several hours in between as another safety feature.
    • It is much more convenient than a saline expander is inside the body, where patients would need to come to the doctor who would use a needle to inject saline into the expander.
    • The only concern that they had was radiating the device. The radiation oncologists they work with believe it is imminently radiatable. They can’t tell people ten years down the road that there will be no impact ten years down the road without having more studies.
    • They try not to use it on clients that need to go onto radiation therapy very quickly which is a ‘very small’ subset of their clients.
    • They have used it on ‘fringe’ patients, i.e. not perfectly fit people, such as a bit overweight, diabetic, short, etc – all equally good results.
    • With traditional methods, no matter how much you clean a needle and the patient, by using needles there is always a minor chance of infection. As a doctor, you are also always concerned pushing a needle in that you’re going to cause a rupture.
    • They have put nearly a 100 Aeroform devices in their patients.
    • They end up expanding faster – even though it is gradually. On average, 21 days they get to full expansion. 80 of the first expanders they put in took up half the time to expand compared to saline expanders,  which again validates the research.
    • Using Aeroform is more comfortable. At 10cc of gas, patients experiences –very minor, almost imperceptible tightness – barely feel a thing. Compare this to the old method where doctors feel obligated to put more in when patients visit to save them time but can be more tight and uncomfortable.
    • The Aeroform is also ‘form stable’ which keeps the anatomic shape. Saline expanders follows the path of least resistance and it will move and expand in ways that is not desired (you don't want wonky breasts)
    • Airxpanders comes in three different sizes.
