Re your post which included;
"... Let's face it,when the Murdoch media aren't in your corner,you don't like it.
Fair enough,you're more than likely human,like the rest of us. ..."
Many aspects of our media concern me; from invasion of privacy to peddling soft porn & demanding the right to print unsourced material as if it has credibility. My view is that our media is exploitive, manipulative & self-serving to the point where it is a threat to our pseudo democracy - NOT its bastion!
Brendan O'Neill's apparent attempt to legitimise statements such as urging people to take up arms to overthrow an elected government & sending Julia Gillard out to sea in a chaff bag horrify me - he might do well to speak with a brother of mine who works firsthand with deeply disturbed psychiatric patients who do attack, maim & kill & who take media comment at face value.
Further, many people accept what appears online & in print as factual information. Many others struggle to differentiate between fact & opinion. Most people are aware that tabloids like the Herald-Sun are pitched at lower reading levels, yet they are highly selective of what appears & IMO poor at adhering to their own codes of conduct - how many do you think could differentiate between Bolt's facts & opinions?
IMO O'Neill's rationale that such statements are tongue in cheeck, inoffensive etc. was a massive demonstration of either incredible naivety, gross stupidity or grotesque irresponsibility. IMO his apparent attempt to associate those who criticise the media with Jihadists & Jew haters was deeply offensive & utterly disgraceful - the Q&A audience even groaned in protest as he spoke.
