I know with Telstra Air the log ons and log offs happen automatically. I have often noticed (on my smart phone) after I arrive home there is a list of Telstra Air hot spots logged onto during the day when I had driven / walked past or whatever.
I agree the need to manually log on would be a pain. I doubt they'd go down that road.
