Why is it important for a politician to know about musicians and/or entertainers? It's certainly of no interest to me, and was a stupid and irrelevant question to ask, and should have been quickly terminated by Tony Jones. I am much more interested in a pollie's political outlook (after all ,that's why we elect them to Parliament, isn't it?) than his/her musical tastes. I don't know of anybody who votes on the basis of musical tastes. Would you have refused to vote for Keating on the SOLE basis that he is a fan of Mahler?

Maybe that's why Wayne Swan (whose praised some pop singer, whose name I can't remember)was such a hopeless Treasurer. A Treasurer who, only in his mind, was capable of turning a gigantic Deficit into a Surplus, but eventually only SUCEEDED blowing it up into an even more grossly distorted and bloated Deficit.
