thanks - came on here and you've written my post for me! well said!
Some hefty blokes flinging discus weren't too interest, so, self flagellating yet again, I swung over to the Labor Hour, which comprised a Q@A "We Hate Campbell Newman and the LNP" Party night. Gosh, the Get Up Box Office must have been flat out with advance audience bookings this week - the whole thing more than ever, but predictably, stacked to the rafters with rabid Lefties!
At one end of the panel were two idiots - one, Craig Emerson - who sat back and let Bob Katter do his work for him. Bob Katter, whom everyone seems to think is screamingly funny. I don't think he's funny at all. Dangerous is a word which is better suited, to my mind - he's all over the place - and who trusts anyone who laughs at their own "jokes!"
Emerson, the pet Gillard Rottweiler attack dog, sat there trying to look angelic. That pose wore off though, and he resorted to his usual Abbott slagging - hypocritically launching personal attacks on Abbott whilst decrying those who reported to personal attacks. For someone who left his wife and three children for the love of Ms. Gillard, he takes a very rocky high moralistic ground! And the "naughty choir boy" look he assumes does not sit well.
Up the other end we had one avid Newman hater - everything was Newman's fault - boy she was wild angry about all things Newman and Liberal National. And then we had a lady singer, whom I suggest should perhaps seek out a more adept hairdresser. She seemed to feel the same as in between looking suitably sour at all things Newman, she proceeded to vapidly start in on repeated yanking at strands of her standards of strange hairdo, first one side, then the other, as she battled to come up with answers to questions which were way beyond her scope of subject knowledge to answer. So she resorted to persistent scowling- as did her female fellow panellist on the end, whose chief contribution was repetitive "I hate Newman!"
(Why do they persist in having entertainers on a political panel discussion?) At the end, said singer got up and sang - and might I respectfully suggest she should not give up her day job, in my humble, but not unknowledgeable, opinion! (And I do speak with some knowledge of music and musicians, to put it mildly - being University trained myself in the dim past, and having been closely involved in the record industry, successfully, commercially.)
We did get good views of her false eyelashes and her nose ring however. But these ghastly shallow rambling "message" songs are excrutiatingly boring! And her sour looks got worse on the panel - the longer the night went. Her singing equally sour.
The only Right Winger was George Brandis - the "sacrificial animal" so to speak. Put in place by the heavily Labor biased Tony Jones as some sort of sop for anyone who, maybe, dares to hold any Right Wing preference. George, as usual, was polite, brave, dignified, and didn't have top resort to the sneering and the nasty sourness and put-downs of the others.
As to the audience - well, stacked, stacked stacked. Put-up questioners dithering there way through pre-written questions provided by somebody else. (Simon Sheik?)
Back to the discus. Which had turned into rowing. Or Scrabble? ah - the Olympics.
Emerson had the needle on the record - again - but this time it was all back to the past - and talk about the pot calling the kettle black - he says Parliament is "not polite" anymore.
How about this Tony Jones? Give us a panel, for a change, with FIVE panelists of the Right, and one (only) of the Left. And an audience all nominated by the LNP! Suprise us mate!
And no bleedin' singers!
What a waste of space this awful "show" is. It's not a show - it's an "I love Labor" rally to arms. And worst thing of all, we're all paying for it's production!
