I believe in the freedom of expression. But what the ABC has turned itself into over the last 2 or 3 decades is not freedom of expression, it is a taxpayer-funded propaganda machine for a particular set of beliefs, attitudes and opinions. It does not, by any reasonable assessment, represent a cross-section of community views or perspectives. The worst side-effect of this development is that the ABC Charter, as originally conceived, seems to have been thrown out the window. How much of its television broadcast time is devoted to a spectrum of the arts and entertainment? I would submit it is a very low proportion compared to what I can remember of,say, the 1960s to 1980s.
