say for example I pay you a package of $2m which is inclusive of base pay, super plus full bonus potential.

I then ask you to take a base pay cut due to economic conditions. You take said cut.

Subsequently my company does okay i then pay you a bonus of over and above what we originally agreed because you took the pay cut. Your total package for this year is now $2.5m.

You are free to tell everyone you took a base pay cut because you did. I am entitled to tell people you took a base pay cut but received a subsequent larger bonus because you did.
