Having recently flown into America, spent time on the ground and then flying back to Australia, I can tell you that flying is not dangerous, is not scary and should be opened immediately in terms of domestic and international flying around Australia.
People catch illnesses and die from all sorts of things all the time. The unnecessary fear mongering in Australia is ridiculous.
It is perfectly safe to fly at the moment.
If you are immunocompromised or elderly - then just make sure you get your vaccine before putting yourself in any situations where you can catch a virus.
Otherwise let the 99% of society (who have zero risk from COVID) go about their lives.
