I agree it has been too infrequent to attract financial follow through. But MERS is still about as any transit through the Mid-East sees posters on the wall. Under control in that it isn't like SARS1/2 but it continues percolating, has reservoirs in animal hosts which create ongoing outbreaks/cases. It just struggles to be highly transmissible human to human which is good with a 35% kill rate. If it mutates in that direction then we are now super prepared with research, prototypes and pandemic experience.
