Blaming Dixon only works for so long. It took Virgin Australia around two years from announcing that they were starting an international offshoot to running their first revenue flight with a brand new 777-300ER, so saying it's too late is a bit redundant.
As surfrat said, with the delivery delays on the 787's, QAN has plenty of leverage to get some well priced 777's, just like they did with the 330 on the 380 delays.
