    However there are other salient poins to consider. Most of Qantas' competitors are either Government owned or Government subsidised. And ,from memory, many European and American airlines have gone broke.

    And we have the classic crunch from:

    - fierce competition;

    - soaring fuel prices;

    - introduction of the Carbon Tax;

    - heavily subsidised international carriers;

    - over paid and underworked staff, the legacy from another, more benign, era.

    NB Most young people that I know do not fly Qantas. They pick the cheapest airfare, a practice they have learned when they buy their groceries and clothes. To them it's no different, as that's how they have been brought up in the last twenty years or so.
