This all blew up in the early 90's. Since then it has been excluded.
NZI at the time, from memory had CSR, now part of IAG, were smart and commuted liabilities back to CSR by writing out a cheque for over $100 million which was a lot back then. QBE possibly from memory had James Hardie and took a different approach.
The issue back then was that the liabilities were attaching years earlier, say the 60's, but they didn't have proper records to identify who the reinsurers were back then to recover from.
