To be fair, these things don't happen overnight. The writing has been on the wall for quite some time, and the opportunity to assess the risk and exit has been available. It can happen in any stock, the company doesn't care if you have long term plans for your shares, unless you're a very significant holder.
I have exited early on a number of long term prospects because they started to not meet my expectations and I knew my money would be put to better use elsewhere. Sometimes I made the rIght call, sometimes I dIdnt - but I would rather miss a winner than see my cash just drain away.
Sitting on an accumulation while corporate actions devalue your NLV and performance in criteria you set for your entry slIps is not what I consider sensible investing. Investing requires regular evaluatIon of the facts and risks and to take one of the very few choices you have; load up, stay the course or bail. Anyone who claims they have been robbed let it happen.
