re: qes Plug and Abandon This refers to a well that will be abandonded, ie will not be used for production after it has been drilled.
An exploration well such as this is drilled, and assessed by electric logging and sometimes by testing (drill stem test -dst) if the logs look favourable, and if the well is not to be turned into a production well it is abandonded. Part of the abandonment process is to plug it, so it doesn't leak contents into the sea, also certain formations at depth are plugged to prevent say oil in one strata migrating into an aquifer. The plugging is achieved by using cement.
Plug and abandon or "P & A" is the normal fate of all exploration wells, when they are no longer required for anyother purpose and all assessment has been completed. Good wells and bad wells all suffer the same fate.
