13 Dec 2024The stabbing occurred on 12 December 2023, where Chris Sanders, a former army veteran, was attacked by a group of teenagers while leaving the shopping centre after buying groceries. Mr Sanders sustained multiple stab wounds, with one coming dangerously close to his heart. His wife, who witnessed the attack, described the harrowing moment, saying she feared for his life as he lay in a pool of blood.
Two teenagers, aged 15 and 17, were later charged in connection with the attack. The younger offender had already been granted bail twice before being rereleased, just a day prior to the anticipated passage of Queensland’s “Adult Crime, Adult Time” bill. The new law aims to hold young offenders accountable for serious crimes by introducing stricter bail conditions and harsher penalties.
