Nobody can reasonably accept unsupported evidence about dam water release strategies. I would be very disappointed if the dam enquiry did so and it is starting to look like it.

If the enquiry did not see what was right in front of it, there is every reason to think that the re-opening of hearings will not produce a final report in time for public scrutiny before the state election.

The local government elections, which cannot be further delayed, have been postponed to fit with a tight report scrutiny and state election timetable. The enqiry is likely to ask for and be granted a further reporting delay, enabling the QLD alp to go to the people before the further delayed report is available.

The alp is not so stupid that they cannot figure out this very convenient outcome. They can profess their desire for an on-time report all the way to the 24th March state election, knowing that it was never going to be ready and that delaying the state election would "unreasonably" overlap campaigns with the already delayed local government elections.

One of the essential witnesses needs to fly back from London. Wouldn't it be even more convenient if he couldn't catch the just-in-time-flight back to testify because he had to wash his hair that day or the cat had kittens.

The dead give-away was delaying the local elections rather than bringing them forward.
