    Labor puts mine in doubt

LABOR’S commitment to the $16.5 billion Carmichael mine and the thousands of jobs it would bring to the North is under serious question.
Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk has ruled out funding the rail line connecting Abbot Point to the proposed coal mine — a move that would throw the massive project in doubt.
At Labor’s campaign launch yesterday, Ms Palaszczuk also pledged not to fund dredging of Abbot Point or dump dredge spoil in wetlands near the port.
The LNP and Townsville Enterprise say this would spell the death knell for Indian company Adani’s mega mine — which would be the largest in Australia and create 6000 new jobs — while environmental groups have praised the decision.
