We could halve the Public service and still get a "good" job done. I would start with the Media section in all Departments. I remember under Peter Beattie we had more media staff in the Planning Section writing publicity than actual Planners. Also - what the heck are our over paid teachers doing? Each year we get dumber high school graduates. In 5 weeks my youngest grand daughter is going to graduate. Her maths is appalling. Her knowledge of history is embarrassing. All she knows is how to shop, watch rubbish on TV, keep her nose in her phone and please a boyfriend. As for aspirations, she has none except possible getting a husband ASAP. No wonder engineering has become a 4 year course at University. The first year is teaching the kids what they should have learnt at high school.
