But Queensland Mines and Energy Minister Stephen Robertson released a statement yesterday saying the State Government would not give it the go-ahead.
He said the Government took that longstanding policy to the last election and was still committed to it.
Australian Conservation Foundation (ASX: ACF.ax) spokesman Dave Sweeney says uranium mining has no place in Queensland.
Mr Sweeney says he doubts the Queensland Government would associate itself with uranium mining, because the environmental impacts are devastating.
"Uranium mining is unlike any other mineral - it is related to the spread of the world's worst industrial waste and to the proliferation of the world's most indiscriminate weapons," he said.
