    Agree
We lived in a world where every winter we had the flu and influenza
unfortunately people died from flu and influenza complications
Influenza has been a notifiable disease for a long time
note that generic "flu" and Influenza are different
you can have the "flu" or common cold but not have influenza
for more than 40 yrs we have had a flu vaccine recalibrated each flu season
what the death rates were like before that vaccine I don't know

    See
Department of Health | Australian Influenza Surveillance Report - 2019 National Influenza Season Summary

"The number of deaths reported in notified cases of laboratory-confirmed influenza to the NNDSS in 2019
(n=953) was considerably higher than the 5 year average (403.8), but 19% lower than the number of
    deaths reported in 2017 (n=1,183)"

So far there have been 2698 covid deaths in australia.

The people who are susceptible to covid are likely the same ones who are susceptible to influenza
So taking that into account there still has been an excess death toll due to covid mainly from the period when vaccines were not available.
now 90%+ of the country is vaccinated the effectiveness or otherwise of the vaccine will be seen.
the same group susceptible to influenza who probably had the flu vaccine is still the same group that will be prone to covid vaccinated or not.
In other words there are some in the community for whom a respiratory virus of severity beyond a common cold or "flu" will be a tipping point.

Back to normal will be the community accepting the same situation that they did for Influenza back prior to 2020

Politicians need to let the community inform them not dictate to the community.
