There's nothing wrong with buying straw hats in winter to sell in summer, but most people buy straw hats at the end of summer, seeing the hat which cost $20 two months ago selling for $15, thinking they're getting a bargain which they can sell for $20 tomorrow, only to find tomorrow they are selling for $14. By all means, buy them in winter for $7 if you want to, you'll be getting a great deal, but the best buy is to buy them in late winter for $4, however, you won't know if the low for this year is $1 or $8 until after the first buyers boost the price some time in spring when the first sunny day comes, and we don't know exactly when that will be, so usually the best bet is to quickly buy when the forecast says the sunny day is coming and the buying starts. Again, sure, you'll miss the very lowest price, but it's the safest way to get as close as possible to it (and on the stock market things are far less predictable than the seasons). Human psychology doesn't fit well with this strategy. Sure, it's mathematically the best one, but human psychology rejects the idea of buying something for $5 today if you could have bought it for $3 yesterday - it simultaneously requires you to pay more than you think you might be able to (because you still think you might be able to get it for $3 even if you can logically deduce that doesn't make sense) and it forces you to admit that you were wrong or failed (because you were foolishly trying to pick the absolute bottom). And with the stock market, there are always little ups and downs on the overall trend in either direction, so instinctively you'll hope you can still get that deal you just missed, or maybe a better one.

Haha, it's almost like the stock market was deliberately designed to frustrate and upset people who have typical human psychology! But we just need to abandon these instincts which served us well in the wilderness while we were evolving over millions of years, and use strategies which work on the stock market.

And if the Glishes of the world attack you, just enjoy the fact that plenty of the people you're competing against have that mentality;engaging with them directly on social media like Hot Copper is very much optional, I generally avoid it, but it's nice to know the market is populated by such individuals.
