Assuming there is no leaky ship issue, it's just taking one of the three possible directions. Humans (most of them) are herd animals. It is safer to follow as part of the group than to go against the herd, so that's what most people do in all areas of life, the stock market being a good example. If the price had been going up as we approached the DFS deadline, the herd would have assumed others knew more than they did and were buying accordingly, so they too would have bought, adding to illusion, and so on. As it is, the price is falling so everyone assumes it's for a reason and they're scared so they sell, and so on. Fear and avoidance of risk is a much stronger human trait than taking a chance (the penalty of being eaten by a lion is larger than the reward of catching the gazelle or getting to the tree covered in fruit, so humans evolved to be more cautious than brave).

In this case we have no guarantees and there's a risk, so even though the fundamentals point to this being a good risk, human psychology which evolved in the jungle will persuade people to stay away, especially when they see others getting away.

    Fortune favours the brave.
