I think that the first stop for non academics who can't stick with a job in industry - is to go consulting.
in law - you don't see so much consulting - so - where do the duds go?
politics - where laws are made.
they are the natural shysters - trained in the art of acting, fully primed in the bullshit business - they are a perfect fit.
Others that get a gig in politics are sometimes talent scouted by a team of shysters who spot someone who is known or popular and they think will fit the shyster team
which is why the occasional popular one becomes a fairly good politician - because they actually know the audience -
if you can pick up a comedian - then, they are truly gifted observers -
mostly though - comedians are so good at observing that they are either depressed - or smart enough to tell the political talent scout where exactly and precisely to go - and, how to get there
