Something that passed right through to the keeper in most cases was the reference to metalstorm implementing a Quality Managed System (QMS) there was only one poster that picked up on it CJS.
QMS ISO 9001 is a must have if the company intend to go into production, they will not win any decent contracts without it.
I know a reasonable amount about QMS as in another life we had to implement it into our own systems, basically what it means is that every process and every aspect of that process must be document to the most minute detail, it involves every process from woe to go with things like safety production testing etc , it means that if a person works on a particular aspect of that production, wether that be the design manufacture or testing, that person has to read any documentation relating to what function they are performing and they must sign the document relating to that process to say they have read all the aspects related to that process and they understand what these documents mean, they then have to sign for that particular function that they performed in the chain on a QMS document.
QMS is no easy task and to maintain ISO9001, regular inspections are performed at intervals without notice by the people who issue the ISO9001 standard, if everything is not in order they lose their license, simple as that!
This QMS process is not there to create a witch hunt if something goes wrong in the production process, it is more about being able to track where a particular problem started in order to be able to rectify the problem easily, it does take a little longer if the process is followed correctly, but it is a very valuable tool and adds value also the the product being sold, would you buy a car from a company that wasn't prepared to make sure all of it's practises were correct and their workers were aware of what was required of them?
This process is a precursor to large scale manufacturing, make no mistake about that, something is about to give IMHO.
