On the location of the assets, like you i would have thought onshore USA in historically oil rich states shouldnt put anyone off, different story if they were drilling in Somalia or Puntland.
I suspect that somewhere down the line AMU assets got tagged as boring, if i am right this represents a major misconception in the market.
AMU drilling success is enviable and their landholdings significant
Perhaps the 'yawn factor' eminates from their earlier days with wells producing only a handful of bbls a day, we here all know those days are well behind us.

How to rectify the misconceptions ??
