    What Quantum Dots can do?

Quantum Dots can be used for producing images of cancer tumours. Currently this is used in lab animals to evaluate the performance of cancer treatments.

Quantum dots are being used to produce miniature lasers for use in communications devices. The advantage of these lasers will be high speed data transfer with low power consumption.

Quantum dots can be used in TV or computer displays. Displays using quantum dots should be thinner, lower power than current displays as well as able to be flexible.

Solar cells with 60% efficiency in electricity production compared to 33% max currently while being $100 or less per square meter of panelling necessary.

Anti-counterfeiting capabilities – inject dots into liquid mixtures, fabrics, polymer matrices etc. Ability to specifically control absorption and emission spectra to produce unique validation signatures. Almost impossible to mimic with traditional semi-conductors.

Counter-espionage / Defense applications : Integrate quantum dots into dust that tracks enemies. Protection against friendly-fire events.

Doped with nitrogen they can be used as a catalyst to make hydrocarbons from carbon dioxide.

Investigating the use of QD’s to treat antibiotic resistant infections.

Developing humidity and pressure sensors using graphene quantum dots

Fuel cells and batteries such as Lithium ion

QDs are expected to fill the growing need for better and efficient LEDs
