Anna will be chook-feed in 11 months’ time; there’s no way this arrogant and incompetent government will be re-elected in 2024. Think ambulance ramping, needless deaths in a chaotic health system, draconian Covid restrictions, DNA testing foul-ups, a bloated public sector, rampant youth crime, hopeless budget management, a reckless bid for the Olympics, and far too many red carpets for the Chook. And that’s only scratching the surface.

The pressure needs to be placed on the Opposition leader, David Crisafulli, to review, reform and moderate the coal royalties system. There’s no way he’ll be able to get rid of it altogether, clearly — the State budget would be in too dire a state without it — but as part of a new approach to economic and budget management he should commit to replacing the current system with one more in line with those of other States and international counterparts. The coal companies and business lobbies should be working hard in the lead-up to next year’s election to extract a firm commitment on this from the next Queensland Premier.
