There’s no way he’ll be able to get rid of it altogether, clearly — the State budget would be in too dire a state without it — but as part of a new approach to economic and budget management he should commit to replacing the current system with one more in line with those of other States and international counterparts. The coal companies and business lobbies should be working hard in the lead-up to next year’s election to extract a firm commitment on this from the next Queensland Premier.
