I think "step out" is the wrong term here. Step out is generally a new well in conventional terms, towards the outer side of a reservior/structure, or poking around finding the edge/limit of structure.
It would be possible to drill horizontal from A2 hole, but unlikely. All upper casing would have prob have to be pulled out again + other things that we dont know about.
Look what Beach BPT is doing in the Cooper Basin. They are using the Vertical hole for diagnostics & Drilling a new Horizontal a few hundred meters away.
