It is understood that logistics group Qube, which does not have an intermodal business in Queensland, made an unsolicited bid to buy Aurizon's businesses in March, when the ACCC announced it had "strong concerns" over the proposed transaction. Qube, which made a subsequent offer in June, believes it could save Aurizon some $40 million of redundancy and exit costs if the Queensland intermodal business stays open.
Mr Sims said he was concerned that people in north Queensland would pay higher prices for goods if Pacific National was the state's only intermodal operator.
