As at 1830 hours on 7 April 2022, it appears that the main southern rail line in NSW (i.e. Sydney - Melbourne) has reopned between Picton and Berrima as the Sydney-bound XPT from Melbourne has departed Moss Vale.
This will allow QUB's empty steel trains from Melbourne to deviate via various Sydney suburbs including Campbelltown, Leightonfield and Sutherland to reach Port Kembla, and loaded steel trains to travel via Sydney to Melbourne. Not ideal (see previous posts) but better than being totally cut off by rail.
