The rain patterns in the west side of the East Coast States have also been impacted by the clearance of vegetation from the Great Dividing Range.
Air flow that comes off the coast across the range picks up moisture from trees etc as it goes inland.
The reduction in vegetation across the range has reduced this uptake & the subsequent dropping of it further inland in the form of rain.
