In the interests of slowing creeping Socialism and not letting go of banking deregulation acheived many years ago the Conservative way of combatting the banks' intransigence is to do what I did successfully yesterday and that is to ring your bank and renegotiate the interest rate on your loan(s).
Market forces dictate that they will generally wish to retain your business but you have to be prepared to go hard and change lender if necessary.
