Firstly, I'm surprised with the the lack interest to this post, especially with the uproar over the banks not passing on the full interest cuts.

Do I make the inference that since HC is basically a shareholders site, that the normally left leaning commentators are as greedy as the right wing posters. OR are the current crop of posters too young to be aware that in the past govt owned banks existed.

I'm just interested in how the banks would behaved if they had to COMPETE against Govt owned banks. I never mentioned about the Govt reintroducing controls over banks behaviour. I'm interested in learning from a former banker what influence Govt owned had on, for example on private banks such as CBA (Commercial Bank of Australia), Bank of NSW etc.

Private companies always claimed that they provided better service and value for money.
