    the ancient laws appear to be for hygiene...

    animals with hoofs and that eat only grass are less suseptible to disease...

    how today we have eradicted most diseases...

    prawns, etc, were outlawed also...even today with our hygience people still get sick from prawns, shellfish, etc...
