because it's psycholological, all in the mind: that's the point of placebo - you think it's doing you good and your body reacts that way. Plus, of course, if they think they are getting better/losing weight, they (subconciously/consiously) mind their diet.
The hip (as opposed to bottom) line is that anything that does statisically better than the effect of the placebo WORKS. Even some well known expensive blood pressure tablets are very little better than placebo. goominer, correct me if I'm wrong...
