"UNFORTUNATELY IN ALL RELIGIONS THE RADICALS TAKE OVER AND MAKE IT EVIL"

    that is a loaded statement
your concept/understanding of the term "religion" is different to mine.
also, this is only looking at one end of the line of "radicals" - if jesus was historical, as recorded, he was a radical.
also, "heretics" are radicals that came from the "church"
how can something that is so complex and so undefined be "EVIL" - many speak of such things as if they have some well defined inherency
even considering a more well defined object such as a stick, someone can not make a stick "EVIL" - it can be used to grow tomatoes on, or beat someone with.
it is the incorporated characteristics of human personality that bring about a quality of evilness to varying degrees

"Do you feel better for not participating in the life of the Church?"

putting aside that there is really no such thing as "the life of the church",
    some will, and some wont
if you had wholesome relationships within that particular community, and then left and entered into an abusive relationship, you may not feel better
if you were getting molestered by a member of that community, then left and moved to a town where there was nice weather and people were generally happier and kinder, then you might.

there is no necessary substantial causal relationship, in respect to happiness between leaving an ill-defined community of professing "theists" and distancing oneself from it.

you are requesting a general [rule] from a particular (something composed of parts).
it is like asking the question of how much does it cost to go on a ride at the show, when the prices for each ride are different

sometimes i felt better being amongst a certain congregation that not being amongst it, sometimes not.

    much depends upon one's disposition.

for another person it may be moreso inconsequential

what was the reason for asking such a question in the first place?
