very very interesting Lenni..excellent stuff! A number of companies hunting in the province.
Thanks for that, & also the info re your mapping knowhow, gonna see if I can recreate your map.

Tony-re the crater being protected, does the granting of the tenement incorporating the crater effectively mean all land within is unprotected, or ?

The Earaheedy Basin is within the Nabberu Basin province.

    From GXY's website:

    Shoemaker

Location - The Shoemaker Impact Crater Project is located on the southern margin of the Earaheedy Basin about 830km northeast of Perth, Western Australia.

    No. of Tenements - 3

    Area - 596km2

    Status - Granted

Geology - The Shoemaker Meteorite Impact crater was previously known as the Lake Teague Ring Structure but was renamed the Shoemaker impact structure in honour of the late Gene Shoemaker and as a tribute to his and Caroline Shoemaker’s work on Australian impact structures. The structure has a diameter of about 30km.

The structure covers the southern part of the Western Proterozoic Earaheedy Basin which overlies the Archaean Yilgarn Craton to the south.

Targets - Both the Connolly and Shoemaker structures provide an exciting opportunity for high risk, high reward exploration plays for nickel, platinum group metals, copper, lead and zinc.

    GIR's ann of 11/11/07:

Giralia controls 100% interest in a 570 square kilometre area in the Miss Fairbairn Hills area of the northern Earaheedy Basin, 100 kilometres north of Wiluna, and 200 kilometres south of Newman in Western Australia. The Company was the early mover in this new, high potential iron ore province which is thought to be the second largest accumulation of iron formations (the host to bedded iron ore deposits) in Australia, containing in total over 500 strike kilometres of thick (up to 500 metres) iron formations. Giralia’s 100% owned tenements cover the most iron-ore prospective areas defined by past exploration work.

The Miss Fairbairn Hills area was the subject of minor iron-ore exploration in the late 1970s principally by Amax Exploration (Australia) Inc. Widespread areas of hematite enrichment were located, with surface grades up to 66% Fe, including zones described by Amax as up to 75 metres (true thickness) grading 62% Fe. A small program of shallow drilling by Amax (only 652 metres of drilling in total, average hole depth 23 metres) returned intersections of 14 metres @ 59.3% Fe, and 4 metres (to end of hole) @ 60.4% Fe, in the Miss Fairbairn Hills, now wholly on Giralia's tenements.

Quoting from Bandalup2's post on GXY thread, 02/11/07:

There is some great information on GSWA regarding the Earhardy regions iron ore potential. Have a read of the relevant sections of this:

    http://geodocs.doir.wa.gov.au/viewer/multipageViewerAction.do?documentId=20900&viewMarkId=0&ct=true&at=none&btv=true&atv=false&vmtv=false&ac=ff0000&cabinetId=1101&pg=0&scl=64&bds=0|0|2560|3584

It goes through all past iron ore exploration in the Earhardy region including on GIR's ground. You will notice that there has been iron ore drilling conducted on all the ground by Amax and BHP except on Shoemaker. Almost all of the prior drilling failed to locate significant iron ore enrichments (remember that when buying into GIR!!!). Shoemaker does not have the strike length of GIRs ground or the width in the units but it is much more likely to have iron ore enrichments due to having been reworked and remobilised during and following the impact event.

You will further notice that iron ore occurrences have been mapped on the northern rim of shoemaker. Not sure on the 500m tonnes presented by others as a target (unless you are using GIR methodology!). IMO - more likely 100-200mt target ore potential.

Shoemaker you will see from the document is also prospective for uranium and lead/zinc not to mention deep Sudbury type nickel that the Company believes it may hold also.

I'm no geo, but u don't need to be to realise that the geology of an impact crater would be unique to the surrounding area - one way or another.

    cheers
    Marny
