I think the 52 meter was from near surface.
Much of the drilling was done from underground - so the DID drill some horizontally.
Most drilling rigs will locate in such a place as to get their drill cores as close to true width as possible. eg an eastward dipping reef would be drilled from the eastern side on an angle as close to right angles with the reef as they can.
Even if they were drilled from the surface, I understand them to be "true widths". It does not say "down-hole"
