This is my understanding of the patents that have been granted. Happy to be corrected.

Nothing novel in the scientific process: nothing new in the way the sample is obtained, processed and analysed, or the way the data is handled after experimental analysis. Analytical machines used are a dime in a dozen in any developed country. Every day, scientists around the world use machines like this to perform analyses like this on samples like this. The link between lipid levels and cancer has been well-established for some time now (lots of scientific publications), However, BCAL Diagnostics would've spent considerable time and money characterising the link to the nth degree to arrive at a satisfactory sensitivity and specificity for detecting cancer. What this patent is protecting is the ability to monetise the carefully characterised link between the amount of lipids in a sample and the presence of cancer.
