JV, the banks won't collapse because of a run. The govt. will mandate restrictions on withdrawals because there is limited cash - only $55bn in circulation compared to $860bn of deposits. The govt will assure you that your money is safe in the bank because of the $250,000 guarantee - the drawback being that you won't be able to access it!
